Imran Khan slams army chief over jail conditions, says terrorists are treated better | Pakistan News

Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday issued a stark warning from behind bars, claiming that if anything were to happen to him in custody, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir must be held responsible.

The 72-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, imprisoned since August 2023 in connection with multiple cases, said his condition in jail has worsened in recent weeks — as has that of his wife, Bushra Bibi. “In recent days, the harsh treatment I face in jail has intensified. The same applies to my wife, Bushra Bibi. Even the television in her cell has been switched off. All basic rights — both human and those legally granted to prisoners — have been suspended for both of us,” Khan wrote on X.

The PTI, meanwhile, is preparing to launch a nationwide agitation from August 5 to press the Shehbaz Sharif government and the military establishment to release Khan.

“There must be accountability for this,” Khan said, alleging that the mistreatment is being carried out by jail authorities on the orders of Asim Munir. “Therefore, I give clear instructions to my party — if anything happens to me in jail, Asim Munir must be held accountable.”

Despite the dire circumstances, Khan said he is ready to spend his life behind bars, but vowed not to “bow before tyranny and oppression.” Calling for civil resistance, he declared: “My message to the people of Pakistan is the same — never submit to this oppressive system under any circumstances… the time for negotiations has passed. Now is the time for nationwide protest.”

Khan also drew a stark comparison to other prisoners, saying, “Even convicted murderers and terrorists are kept in better conditions than me.” He accused the authorities of treating him with “relentless abuse,” while claiming that a military official jailed in a similar timeframe is “enjoying VIP treatment.”

He also repeated an earlier claim about why his wife is allegedly being mistreated. According to Khan, the Army Chief harbours a personal grudge dating back to Khan’s term as prime minister. “When Asim Munir was removed from his post of ISI chief, he attempted to send a message to Bushra Bibi through Zulfi Bukhari, requesting a meeting. She firmly refused. Since then, Asim Munir has had a personal grudge and is now inflicting this cruelty to emotionally break me,” he alleged.

Khan also lashed out at Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, saying they have fostered a “climate of tyranny and fascism” in Punjab for the past two years.

Calling on party workers and leaders to stand united and escalate their agitation, Khan said: “I also direct all party members and officials to personally retweet my Twitter messages and help amplify my voice to as many people as possible.”

Pakistan claims terror network ‘dismantled’, denies LeT link to Pahalgam attack | Pakistan News

Pakistan on Friday claimed that it “dismantled” the terrorist network and any effort to link the Pahalgam terror attack with the defunct Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) was against the reality.

The Foreign Office made the remarks in a statement, a day after the US designated The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror outfit LeT, as a “foreign terrorist organisation” and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist for its involvement in the Pahalgam attack.

“Pakistan has effectively and comprehensively dismantled concerned outfits, arrested and prosecuted the leadership, and deradicalised its cadres,” the statement said.

Stating that the investigation into the Pahalgam attack is “still inconclusive,” it said, “any linkage with LeT, a defunct organisation banned in Pakistan, belies ground realities”.

The statement said Pakistan condemns terrorism in all forms and manifestations, has zero tolerance against terrorism, and it is the cornerstone of its policy to cooperate internationally against terrorism.

The TRF claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack, but later backtracked as tensions soared between India and Pakistan.

MOFA give warning to Afghan Taliban, Calls for responsible action from Kabul

ISLAMABAD, October 12, 2025: Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the unjustified aggression by the Afghan Taliban, Khawarij militants, and Indian-backed elements along the Pak-Afghan border on the night of October 11–12. The Foreign Office said such unprovoked actions aim to destabilize the region and go against the spirit of peaceful and cooperative relations between the two neighbouring countries.

Exercising its right to self-defence, Pakistan’s forces effectively repelled the attacks across the border and, in doing so, inflicted heavy losses on the Taliban and allied militant groups. Notably, these groups had been using their bases inside Afghanistan to plan and support terrorist attacks against Pakistan. Furthermore, the statement added that Pakistan’s response was precise and measured, ensuring civilian safety and avoiding collateral damage.

At the same time, Pakistan values dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful coexistence with Afghanistan. Nevertheless, the government will continue to monitor the situation closely and, if necessary, take every possible step to protect its territory and people. In conclusion, it warned that Pakistan will respond strongly and decisively to any future provocations.

Pakistan also rejected remarks made by Afghanistan’s interim foreign minister during his visit to India, calling them baseless attempts to divert attention from the presence of terrorists operating inside Afghanistan. The statement reminded the Taliban government that the UN Monitoring Team has repeatedly confirmed the existence of such elements on Afghan soil.

“The statement emphasized that fighting terrorism is a shared responsibility. It urged the Taliban to stop blaming others and ensure that Afghan soil is not used for terrorism against any country. Moreover, Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns about the presence of Khawarij and Indian-backed elements in Afghanistan and therefore expects the Taliban to take concrete and verifiable action against them.”

Reaffirming its commitment to peace and humanity, Pakistan noted that it has hosted nearly four million Afghan refugees for more than forty years. The government will continue to regulate their stay in line with international laws and norms.

The statement concluded by saying that Pakistan desires a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan, governed by a truly representative leadership that works for the well-being of its people and regional harmony.

30 Million gallons stolen daily, Rangers expose Illegal water network in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) carried out a major operation in Nazimabad, uncovering an illegal water theft network that was stealing nearly 3 million gallons every day.

The operation took place near the Saifullah Bangash Hotel and was personally led by the Mayor and KW&SC Chairman Barrister Murtaza Wahab, along with the Chief Operating Officer, Engineer Asadullah Khan. During the raid, officials found eight illegal connections hidden beneath residential buildings, linked through narrow underground tunnels.

According to officials, the culprits had even crawled through tight passages to connect stolen water lines, a risky act that also caused severe damage to the city’s water system. Investigators discovered a similar network at the same spot just three months ago, showing the operation’s organized nature.

The Rangers and KW&SC’s Anti-Theft Unit dismantled the illegal setups and started round-the-clock surveillance to identify more such connections. “These criminals are stealing the basic rights of Karachi’s citizens, and we will not allow it,” said Mayor Wahab. “We will take strict legal action against everyone involved.”

He praised the Rangers and KW&SC teams for their swift action and vowed that the crackdown on water theft would continue citywide. “This fight is not just about water,” he said. “It’s about justice and ensuring that every Karachiite gets their fair share.”
